Context and Goals

Launched in 2017, this project aimed to support Quebec roof truss manufacturers in the creation and implementation of a provincial quality certification for wood roof trusses. At the time, similar certifications already existed in other Canadian provinces and in the United States, but not in Quebec.

In collaboration with the Épinex niche sector, BOCA initially brought together about ten Quebec-based manufacturers to develop a quality certification for roof trusses and joists. The objectives were to highlight the quality of prefabricated structural products, strengthen trust among construction professionals, and promote better in-plant practices.

Concretely, a new CSA standard (CSA S349) was developed and published in August 2020. The quality control system, created in collaboration with the Manufacturiers de structures de bois du Québec (MSBQ), is now implemented across all plants in the province.

Description

Development of a standardized quality control manual

Creation of an MSBQ certification based on the CSA S349 model

Support for implementation and factory audit tests

Training of 30 executives, 20 quality control managers, and 60 assemblers

Promotion of the certification to clients

Results

The quality control system is now implemented across all factories in Québec and all MSBQ members are certified.
